Jesus Heals Anyway. Thank God! October 2, 2016 f
Jesus goes out of his way to find us—and help us, if we are willing.
– Jesus goes where no Jew would be willing to go: Samaria + leprosy
– Jesus makes it easy for them to be healed: He hears them, he looks at them, and he sends them to the priests (Jerusalem or Samaria?).
– Jesus seems to do all the work! All they do is shout. “Have pity on us!”
Jesus sees us as we really are, and he heals the ungrateful anyway.
– That’s who He is: The human face of the generosity and grace of God.
Christ Jesus has come to show us the kindness of God. 2Tim.1:10
– Our need defines us: We need to be ransomed from the bondage of sin.
[Jesus said] “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matt.20:28 (NIV)
– Our deepest need finally defines us: We need real, healthy, joyful life.
[Jesus said] “I came so that everyone would have life, and have it in its fullest.” John 10:10 (CEV)
We can yell at Jesus! We can “use” Jesus. Just don’t ignore Jesus.
– Jesus allows anyone to ask him for healing. Even sinners. He hears.
Jesus said, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor, but sick people do. I didn’t come to invite good people to turn to God. I came to invite sinners.” Luke 4:31-32
– Jesus responds to the smallest “amount” of faith with his great power.
[Jesus said] “If you had faith no larger than a mustard seed, you could tell this mountain to move from here to there.” Matt.17:20-21
Jesus sends us out: We thank the Lord in the way we live!
– He doesn’t send us out to win debates.
– He doesn’t send us out to show how superior we are.
– He sends us out to love, proclaim, and serve—So he can heal others.
We love because God loved us first. 1John 4:19
Jesus said to his disciples: “If you love me, you will do as I command.” John 14:15
All that matters is your faith that makes you love others. Gal.5:6
If you have faith when you pray for sick people, they will get well. The Lord will heal them, and if they have sinned, he will forgive them. James 5:15
Psalm 103 2 With all my heart I praise the LORD! I will never forget how kind he has been.
3 The LORD forgives our sins, heals us when we are sick, 4 and protects us from death.
His kindness and love are a crown on our heads.
Luke 6 17 Jesus and his apostles went down from the mountain and came to some flat, level ground. Many other disciples were there to meet him. Large crowds of people from all over Judea, Jerusalem, and the coastal cities of Tyre and Sidon were there too. 18 These people had come to listen to Jesus and to be healed of their diseases. All who were troubled by evil spirits were also healed.
17 [Jesus said] 11 On his way to Jerusalem, Jesus went along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men with leprosy came toward him. They stood at a distance 13 and shouted, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”
14 Jesus looked at them and said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.”
On their way they were healed. 15 When one of them discovered that he was healed, he came back, shouting praises to God. 16 He bowed down at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. The man was from the country of Samaria.
17 Jesus asked, “Weren’t ten men healed? Where are the other nine? 18 Why was this foreigner the only one who came back to thank God?” 19 Then Jesus told the man, “You may get up and go. Your faith has made you well.”
2Timothy 2 8 Keep your mind on Jesus Christ! He was from the family of David and was raised from death, just as my good news says. 9 And because of this message, I am locked up in jail and treated like a criminal. But God’s good news isn’t locked in jail, 10 and so I am willing to put up with anything. Then God’s special people will be saved. They will be given eternal glory because they belong to Christ Jesus. 11 Here is a true message:
“If we died with Christ, we will live with him.
If we don’t give up, we will rule with him.
If we deny that we know him, he will deny that he knows us.
If we are not faithful, he will still be faithful.
Christ cannot deny who he is.”
14 Don’t let anyone forget these things. And with God as your witness, you must warn them not to argue about words. These arguments don’t help anyone. In fact, they ruin everyone who listens to them.
15 Do your best to win God’s approval as a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed and who teaches only the true message.
